6.)The Great Khali defeated WWE Champion John Cena by disqualification
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.WWE Champion John Cena made his way out to the ring to kick off the program. Cena says that his victory over Umaga last night was not a fluke, which Estrada believes to be the case. Cena knows that he barely won but he is happy to be the champion still. Cena decides that he wants to give Umaga a rematch. Coach comes out to tell Cena that he has given Umaga the night off. Coach proceeds to introduce the newest member of the roster, the Great Khali! It is announced they will have a non-title contest later tonight.
2.Backstage, Vince McMahon tries his best to promote the Rosie/Donald match to take place later tonight, but who really cares about that? After a commercial, a fake Rosie entered the room and ate a cake very obnoxiously.
3.Hardy hit a springboard double stomp in the corner in the early moments. Kenny was dropkicked to the floor where Hardy took him out with a slingshot dive. Kenny fought back with a swinging neck breaker back in the ring. Kenny got a near fall after delivering a running reverse back elbow. Hardy nailed Kenny with the Whisper in the Wind and nearly won the bout. Johnny Nitro came out to distract Hardy but Ric Flair also came out and low blowed Kenny. Hardy took advantage of this and hit the Twist of Fate to win the contest.
4.Jim Ross reveals that HHH suffered a quad injury last night and will be out four to six months. It appears as if Rated RKO will be having a celebration tonight on RAW.
5.Backstage, Todd Grisham talks to the Great Khali. We can’t understand what Khali says because, well, he doesn’t speak English.
6.Melina kicked Maria in the midsection and connected with a springboard face buster to pick up the victory.
7.The Donald/Rosie match was up next, which is just ridiculous. Donald won the “match” after hitting a middle rope head butt. The fans took advantage of this match to chant for TNA.
8.Carlito opened the bout with springboard cross body for a near fall in the opening moments. Masters began to work on Carlito in the corner when Torrie Wilson came out to watch the match. Masters dropped Carlito with a clothesline but couldn’t put Carlito away. Masters maintained control with a bear hug to weaken Carlito. Carlito dropkicked Masters to the floor where Torrie ended up hitting him over the back with the ring bell. That allowed Carlito to hit the Back Cracker and won the match.
9.Randy Orton and Edge came out and talked about their match with DX last night. Orton talked about the expression losing a battle but winning a war. He talked about Michaels leaping off the rope to elbow drop him through the announcers table. Edge suffered a pedigree through the other table. Orton says every step they took last night hurt. They take credit for splitting DX up once and for all. Edge chimed in to say that they backed up what they said. He lists all the people who failed at ending DX, but they did it. Apparently next week HBK will wrestle Rated Rko in a handicap match. Shawn Michaels came out and said he didn’t know if this was the end of DX. He is going to be by HHH’s side when he has surgery and will take care of Rated Rko next week.
10.Shad rammed Murdoch head first into an exposed turnbuckle and JTG rolled Murdoch up to get another win over the cowboys.
11.Can WWE Champion John Cena overcome the size difference when he meets the Great Khali? Let’s see… Khali had the early advantage as he wasn’t affected by Cena’s offense. Estrada got involved again and caused the disqualification. After the match, Khali drove Cena down to the mat with a choke slam. Umaga came out and delivered a running butt splash in the corner. Umaga followed up with the Samoan Spike to leave the champ laying.
Final Thoughts:
Aside from the Hardy/Kenny and Carlito/Masters matches this show really didn’t deliver anything of quality. I strongly dislike the Great Khali as a serious heel on the RAW brand. I really hope he doesn’t get involved with Cena for a long period of time. This was yet another poor overall RAW episode to open up 2007.
