ECW on Sci-Fi 1/30/2007

1.)Matt Striker defeated CM Punk
2.)Hardcore Holly defeated Rob Van Dam
3.)ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley defeated Test to retain the title

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.Vince McMahon arrives to the building and talks to Marcus Cor Von. He sees the Sandman and insults him for drinking beer on the job. As he walks away, Sandman spits beer at his boss.

2.Matt Striker blocks a suplex from the apron early on and drops Punk across the top rope. Striker delivers a swinging neck breaker for a two count. Punk fights back with a clothesline and power slam. Punk hits a running knee in the corner and connects with a running bulldog. Punk hits a double under hook back breaker for another near fall. Striker counters a sunset flip attempt and pins Punk while using the ropes for leverage.

3.Backstage, Vince McMahon insults Tommy Dreamer telling him that he doesn’t bother with dreams but rather in reality.

4.RVD hits a side kick, hurricanrana and counters the Alabama Slam with another kick. RVD is able to backdrop Holly over the top to the floor and takes him out with a dive over the top rope as the show goes to commercial. RVD hits a middle rope leg drop for a two count. Holly is able to shove RVD off the top rope and sends RVD crashing into the guard railing. Holly keeps control of the match with several stomps. Holly absorbed a spinning wheel kick and dropkicks RVD to keep control of the bout. RVD soon hits the rolling thunder but only gets a near fall. Holly counters a monkey flip with a spine buster! Moments later, Holly sends RVD into the ring post and hits the Alabama Slam to win the match!

5.Backstage, Vince McMahon tells Sabu to stay out of his way. He also asks Balls Mahoney if he really has any balls.

6.Vince McMahon cuts off the Extreme Expose. McMahon says everything about ECW sucks. Whether it be the originals, the ring or even the fans! Elijah Burke comes out as being the savior of ECW. Burke assures McMahon that the ECW originals will be feeling his wrath. Here comes the Sandman, Dreamer, Sabu and Mahoney come out and hit Burke with all their signature moves. McMahon is obviously not happy about this!

7.Early on, Test tried to hit a pile driver on the concrete floor, but Lashley countered with a backdrop! Lashley misses a spear and hits the ring post instead. Test rams Lashley shoulder first into the ring post a few times. Lashley clotheslines Test several times before hitting a delayed vertical suplex. Test misses his big boot and Lashley finishes him off with a running power slam. After the match, the lights go off the the Undertaker appears perhaps meaning he is going to challenge Lashley at WrestleMania. Yeah… right.

Final Thoughts:
I’m going to consider this a good show for ECW. The Holly/RVD match was a good television match and sure the Lashley/Test stuff is essentially the same stuff it’s not all that awful. This just means that Test can’t be a threat for any title ever again. I did enjoy the segment with McMahon, Burke and the Originals. I think it will be interesting to see an Originals vs. New Breed feud.
