Wrestling Thoughts:
First Edition
Written by: Bob Colling
I’ve decided to write columns on a regular basis about what is going on today in wrestling. I could share either quick thoughts on events, or go on rants. Starting with the TNA pay per view on Sunday July 9th I’m going to do some predictions for the pay per view events and all that great stuff. That wasn’t the greatest introduction to this new column, but you will see what it’s all about. I’ll try to limit the topics in each column so that they are quick, easier reads.
WWE:
CM Punk’s Worked Shoot: Let’s face it, the promo was a work. Honestly, would the WWE ever allow talent to just rip on management like that without giving the green light? I don’t think so. The promo was done incredibly well, which is something I can’t ever recall ever being excited about a pay per view because of a promo of all things. Will Punk leave after the event? I have to think he is going to, but will return sooner rather than later. I would love to see him go to ROH for a few shows but I think that is unlikely. TNA isn’t even worth considering without Heyman. Punk is without a doubt the best worker on the microphone and in the ring going today. I’m actually looking forward to a Cena match, and it’s all because of Punk.
Zack Ryder: I’ll admit that prior to the YouTube videos I didn’t see much in Ryder. However, once I viewed the first video I instantly became a fan. He is a hilarious guy as is his father. As seen on this past RAW, it looks like Ryder will finally get some airtime. I’m thinking that Ryder will be misused but the Ryder Revolution must continue! *fist pump*
Tag Team Division: I don’t care about any of the teams in WWE. What is the point of having tag team championships if you don’t even care about the division? If you want to watch good tag team wrestling, find footage from the 1980’s or during the Hardys/Dudley’s/Edge and Christian era. Or, go to www.rohwrestling.com.
TNA:
Sting: I’m actually interested in Sting for the first time since 1996-1997. He seems to have some kind of new passion and his promos have been quite entertaining. I don’t see him winning the belt from Anderson since they seem to be promoting a Sting/Hogan match for BFG. Their matches sucked in 1997, why am I supposed to think they will have a good match in 2011?
X-Division: All of the X-Division qualifying matches for the contract match at the pay per view have been really entertaining. That is what made TNA enjoyable back in 2002-2007, the X-Division. They need to go back to that formula and put on at least one stellar match a week. You have to be different than the competition otherwise I have no reason to change the channel.
ROH:
Rhino: He looked in shape and put on a decent match with Homicide. I feel like there is a place for the Man Beast in ROH. It’s always good to have different styles in the company. A lot of the guys can put on incredible spot fest matches but all of them can deliver with brawls/hardcore matches like Rhino can. He is a good addition to ROH and a fairly good name for their television debut in September.
KOW to WWE?: Apparently Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli are leaving ROH to achieve greatness in the WWE. If they plan on going to WWE as a tag team, they won’t do much not because they suck, but because they don’t care about the division. I like Claudio better than Hero and could see him be a dominate heel in WWE. This kind of reminds me of when the Dudley Boys left ECW once they got a television deal. ROH could leave a staple of their tag team division.
Davey Richards: I’m glad he is the champion as he is possibly my favorite wrestler competing today. He reminds me a lot of Chris Benoit and Dynamite Kid. I hope he gets a lengthy run with the championship as well.
Well, that’s some quick thoughts today. Tomorrow I will post my predictions for TNA Destination X!
Thanks for reading.
